Everything about Fairfield Victoria totally explained

Fairfield is an inner-northern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is shared across the Local Government Areas of the City of Yarra and the City of Darebin. Yarra Bend is a locality in Fairfield.
Fairfield is predominantly residential, with a small north-eastern pocket remaining a light industrial area. It also features a three-storey coffee palace, the Grandview Hotel, built in 1888.
Because it's situated on what many regard as the fringes of Melbourne's popular and much-revived 'inner city', gentrification has been strong, and property prices are high. To the south is the Yarra River and surrounding parkland, and the popular Fairfield Boathouse.

Transport

Fairfield is serviced by Fairfield railway station, which is on the Hurstbridge line. Adjacent to the station, facing north-east, is FIDO (Fairfield Industrial Dog Object), a 6-metre-tall wooden dog. Bus routes run along Station Street (567, 609), Separation Street (508), Darebin Road (158, 246, 250, 510), Rathmines Street and Wingrove Street (567), Heidelberg Road (546, 609) and Sparks Avenue/Montefiore Street/Chingford Street/Perry Street (609).

Commerce and culture

Commercial activity is focused on the shopping strip on Station Street and Wingrove Street, opposite Fairfield railway station. Fairfield's commercial outlets have prospered in recent years, with a recent influx of cafes, bars and specialist shops to Station Street.
There is also a thriving audiophile speaker building lab located in a leafy pocket. However, quality of workmanship and speed of delivery may be at issue.
Fairfield also contains the venue for a select but democratic men’s group, dedicated to quality cinema and bonhomie.

Educational facilities

  • Fairfield Primary School
  • St Anthony's Primary School
